“So he brought the people down to the water. And the LORD said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps from the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set apart by himself…” (Judges 7:5).
The second part of Yahweh’s screening test on Gideon’s army involved eliminating doggish thinking. The Bible often uses animal metaphors to correct our wrong conduct. For instance, doglike behaviour includes a tendency to despise precious spiritual truths–“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces” (Mat 7:6). How much do you appreciate the things of God dear friend? How excited are you about matters spiritual?
