“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham” (Mat 1:1).

Why is our Lord identified as a Son of these particular men? First, because Jesus is the fulfilment of the Davidic kingship (Isaiah 11:1). He’s also the fulfilment of the Abrahamic blessing for all families (Gen 12:3). Why is this combination significant? Our Lord’s Davidic descent speaks of royal authority. His Abrahamic heritage speaks of His blessedness. Blessings without authority are insecure, prosperity without order is reckless and ungoverned success is destructive. In Christ we have blessed control & controlled blessings. In Christ “the blessing of the Lord makes rich but does not add sorrow” (Pro 10:22). Let this be your portion this Christmas and beyond!
