“When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him” (Mat 2:3).
Why did the Incarnation trouble king Herod and company so much? He felt threatened by this Baby-King’s genuine majesty. Let’s face it friends, Jesus’ reign certainly upstages every pretentious despot. His advent wreaks havoc on our phoney authority and disrupts the status quo. When the true King of glory shows up, the fake regents must make way. This Xmas, let’s abdicate our pompous thrones and let the King of glory take His rightful place (see Ps 24:9-10).
