“But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee” (Mat 2:22).
Our unsung hero, Joseph, here exhibits two interlocking levels of awareness that served the divine agenda well. Firstly, he kept abreast of his political environment. He wasn’t blind to the social dynamics around him. Secondly, he remained tuned in to the Spirit’s leading. The two levels of awareness did not operate in conflict in Joseph’s life. He was rational and spiritual at the same time. So should we be. We will be more effective in our earthly assignment when we harmonise our natural and supernatural living.
