“not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God” (Heb. 6:1c).
In our haste to build on, let’s ensure that the foundation (themelion) is there and strong in the first place! Verses 1-2 of this chapter revisit the 6 cornerstones of this essential foundation. Jesus emphasises the importance of a strong foundation to the survival of the house (Luke 6:48). I urge you dear saint to honestly go through the checklist God gives us before attempting to build on. Have you truly repented from dead works, for instance? Have you truly turned your back on the world, the devil and sin? Without true repentance (and the other cornerstones), we can desire to grow as passionately as we can, but the whole edifice will crumble. Your spirituality is only as strong as your spiritual foundation. How good is yours?
