“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires, to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” ( Eph. 4:22-24).

It is every wise believer’s responsibility to ensure that the old sinful nature doesn’t quietly creep back into one’s life. That’s why God expects us to regularly “confess our sins” (1 John 1:9). When we do that, we are rejecting and putting off the “old man” before he takes over again. That’s why a prayerful lifestyle is necessary for every child of God. During prayer is when you wash off the stuff that easily entangles us (Heb. 12:1) & declare your new righteousness status in Christ. Don’t just admit your mistakes, remember to praise God for His forgiveness and righteousness. That’s how you “put off” & “put on”. Then you’ll function like a true child of God.
