‘Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”’ (Mat 4:3).
This “harmless” satanic suggestion was extremely deadly! The tempter’s strategy focused on the Heavenly Father’s awesome affirmation of Jesus’ identity as the beloved Son in whom God was well-pleased (Mat 3:17). Without denying Jesus’ divine identity, Satan tried to redefine what Jesus’ sonship entitled Him to do. Recall that Jesus’ mission was to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). Proving His divinity by showing off His powers would not solve humanity’s sin problem. Actually Jesus NEVER performed miracles purely in order to show off His glory. He lived only to glorify the Father who had sent Him (John 5:30). Saints beware! When we are preoccupied with our titles and statuses, we play right into the enemy’s hands. Don’t let the devil redefine your mission. I assure you, he’ll try!
