‘Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve”‘ (Mat 4:10).

The Lord Jesus models for every believer how to effectively deal with Satan’s temptations and taunts. (1) Standing upon the authority of God’s Word, Jesus commanded the devil to flee. Our Redeemer didn’t plead with the Heavenly Father to get rid of the devil for Him. He just resisted the devil knowing that he would flee (James 4:7). We too must learn to assert our God-given authority over the enemy (see Luke 4:19). (2) Moreover, at no time did our Lord negotiate with or entertain the devil. Neither should we toy with the enemy! (3) Jesus’ resistance of satanic wiles was purely Scriptural, not intellectual. So should ours be. Our ideas lack the necessary innate power to defeat diabolical schemes. Don’t use your logic, use the Logos. Don’t use your words, use God’s Word!
