“It is better to trust in the LORD
Than to put confidence in princes” (Psalm 118:9).

The previous verse outlines the axiom that we must not trust people in general. Now, this verse singles out a particular category of people we should not trust–princes. Princes are leaders. These are people who exert serious influence over others by virtue of their class, social or other status. Political, civic, entertainment, religious and educational leaders all fall into this category. This is where many of us miss it. How many people have been misled by their trust in celebrities, politicians & even pastors? So many heartaches have happened to many an honest but naive Christian. Brethren beware! Ever heard of the term “the blind leading the blind”? Enough said! Even the great apostle Paul says believers should only follow him as long as he follows Christ (1 Cor. 11:1). That means when your Pastor stops following Christ, stop following him! It also means that as long as our leaders are in sync with Christ, we must follow them. No more blind loyalty! Only God deserves our unreserved trust: He’s not a man that He should lie (Num 23:19). Trust Him always!
