“Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth” (Luke 11:2d).
Our world today is a living testimony of what happens when the will of man and the devil’s prevail. Consider the hate, conflicts, corruption, deception, exploitation, greed, injustice, poverty, piracy, pollution, perversion and terror in all parts of this precious planet. Whose agenda is prevailing in this planet friends? It’s certainly not God’s! See where our leaders’ visions, promises, strategies and decisions have landed us. See how Satan wreaks havoc upon our loved ones. See where our own misguided notions have landed us. Do you still wonder why Jesus instructed us to pray that God’s will be done on earth? That prayer is the cure for our societies’ manifold ills. The only reliable solution in our desperate world is the will of God. God’s will is the very embodiment of His infinitely wise and loving vision, plans and purposes for all His children. Instead of relying on their limited understanding, twisted judgment and pretentious authority, informed believers earnestly invite the Heavenly Father’s will to be done in their lives, families, churches, communities and world. That’s the prayer of those who know that God knows what we don’t and can handle what we can’t. “Thy will be done” is the prayer of the humble, wise and faithful.
