“that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life” (Rom 6:4b).
While the first part of this verse gives us the Burial Principle, the second gives us the Resurrection Principle. Both are complementary sides of the believer’s key to victorious Christian living. The first entails renouncing the old man, our sinful nature (see Ep. 4:22). The second entails unleashing our new man created after God in righteousness and true holiness (Ep. 4:24). Many believers passively allow the old man to dominate their lives, leading to a lifestyle contrary to one’s reborn status. Others neglect the spiritual habit of appropriating our newness of life, our resurrection power (see Phi 3:10). As informed believers, much of our personal devotional life must comprise affirming our new creation status–our new man, our unstoppable born again, spirit-man, and acknowledging the expiry of our old man. When you repeatedly talk about your weaknesses, failures, sins, mistakes, diseases, lack and so forth, you’re effectively rendering CPR to your old man and sabotaging your own victory! Not your portion!
