“Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Ro 6:11).

In this context, to reckon is to consider, regard or think of as. I see many Christians doing the opposite of what the Word teaches here. That’s how we derail our own victory! Growth and victory in Christ have much to do with getting our minds to match what our Lord accomplished in our inner man. We train our minds and mouths to agree with what God says about us as reborn people. We train our minds and mouths to regard ourselves incapable of malice but capable in godliness (1 Cor. 14:20). So when sin rears its ugly head, say, “I’m dead to this”. Don’t resuscitate your old man! When an opportunity to glorify God in a special way presents itself, never say ‘I can’t do this’. In the flesh, you can’t, but through Christ who strengthens you, you can do all things (Phi 4:13). Today, practice denying the flesh and affirming the spirit man.
