“As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me” (Jo 15:4b).

Spiritual fruitfulness is a function of one’s location rather than one’s duration in Christ. Contrary to our misguided notions about human potential, Jesus reveals that the only way we can be truly productive is when we are vitally united to Him. Affirming ourselves enthusiastically can’t generate fruit of the Spirit. Reciting moral creeds cannot help us. Imitating godly people cannot induce genuine Kingdom results. Undergoing Christian rites can’t fabricate spiritual fruit. Changing one’s name doesn’t help. Frequenting church is no substitute. No external process can conjure up intrinsic divine fruitfulness. Only when we stay vitally conjoined with Christ and intricately attached to His lifeblood by His Spirit and His Word can His life, love and light flow effortlessly in and through us. Let that be your portion today and always.
