“If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love” (Jo 15:10).

Previously we saw that the benchmark of Jesus’ love for us is the Father’s love for Christ. Today we learn that the benchmark of our abiding in Christ is our Saviour’s obedience to God. This goes to show that walking in the love of God is not so much about some sentimental, fuzzy feeling but about doing His will. Put differently, sometimes we don’t sense the love and presence of God simply because we neglect His instructions. Beloved, we must not treat God’s commandments as suggestions! Jesus didn’t do that. Neither should we. God’s will is not debatable. It’s not subject to negotiation. I dare you to up your game in terms of obedience to the revealed will of God for your life–and watch the love of Christ manifest in and thorough you like never before.
