“Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness” (2 Cor. 9:10).

Beloved, one of the key triggers of certain spiritual fruits our Lord expects us to bear is giving. Our text teaches that when we meet the needs of destitute of poor believes, we sow seed into the Kingdom and thereby trigger a supernatural process of multiplication. The next four verses in our text spell out three examples of the fruits or harvest of righteousness that stem from the ministry of giving. Firstly, an overflow of thanksgivings (praise) to God happen among the recipients of this grace (vv11-12). Secondly, the receiving saints glorify God (v13). Thirdly, passionate intercession for the givers ensues (v14). What an awesome chain reaction! Beloved, the Scriptures are replete with example upon example of the phenomenal effect of generosity towards people of God. Space doesn’t allow us to discuss Cornelius, Dorcas, the Shunammite woman or the widow of Zarephath and the awesome results of their giving. Suffice it to say that God counts giving as a legitimate fruit of the Spirit. I pray that you’ll grow in this grace too and experience the untold harvest of righteousness thereby triggered.
