“…And the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful”(Mar 4:19).

After a necessary detour, let’s return for the conclusion of our mini series on the three word-chokers our Lord revealed in the Parable of the Sower. The third choker of our spiritual growth through the word of God is wanton passion. Beloved, an unbridled desire for seemingly harmless stuff can be stoked by the devil in order to derail one’s faith. How can the same heart delight in the Lord (Ps 37:4) and at the same time be obsessed with vain stuff? Our hearts were not designed to serve two masters (Mat 6:24). Wise believers consider the object of their zeal carefully. The dominant passion in your life will determine your focus. Your focus drives your pursuit. Your pursuit determines your destiny. Will you take stock of your passions now, dear friend? What is threatening to snuff the life out of your enthusiasm for the Word of God? Let your love for Christ, His people, His Word and His business thrill and arrest your heart above all else!
