“But the worries of life, the deceitful pleasures of riches, and the desires for other things take over. They choke the word so that it can’t produce anything” (Mar 4:19).

Everyone of us has a chink in our armour through which we are vulnerable. Knowing your “Achilles heel”, that is your spiritual weak spot, can help you avoid unexpected disaster.

From Scripture, we know that one’s weakest link is either the Problems of life, Pleasures of riches or Passions for stuff. As already noted, Jesus reveals three kinds of “thorn” that can suffocate the word of God in any believer’s life, if left unchecked. As far as these word-chokers are concerned, it’s “different strokes for different folks”. For instance, the same problems that draw some people closer to God have the opposite effect on others. Also, the same success or pleasure that fills one’s heart with utmost praise to God, sends others to the pit of hell. Likewise, some believers can manage their passions wisely while others really struggle. Let the grace of God be sufficient for your weakness, whatever it is (2 Co. 12:9)! No problem, pleasure or passion shall hinder your growth in Christ!
