“How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him?” (He 2:3).

To neglect is to give little attention or respect to something. It is to disregard or leave something undone or unattended to especially through carelessness. It shows up as apathy, indifference or complacency. My dear friends, we must not treat our great salvation like that! Rather, we must pay much closer attention to the Gospel, lest we drift away from it (He 2:1). Often our only crime is lethargy rather than open rebellion to God’s word. We mustn’t kid ourselves that as long as we’re not actively revolting against God then we’re ok. We’re not! Apathy causes you to quietly drift away from God’s love and grace unawares. An indifferent spirituality admits old sinful habits into one’s life unnoticed. It robs you of fire, faithfulness and fruitfulness in Christ. Left unchecked, such apathy can cost you dearly. Let us rather work out our own salvation with fear and trembling (Phi 2:12).
