“Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy” (1 Cor. 14:1).

We’ve already seen that the first step to developing your spiritual fluency is to regularly refill your spiritual tank (Ep 5:18).

Two more relevant ways to sharpen your spiritual fluency are derivable from today’s verse. Today we consider the first of these: Make the love of God the primary motivation for your ministry and interaction with fellow believers and others. Because God is love, if your goal is to be a blessing to others, the Holy Spirit will gladly release the right spiritual resources for you to do so. Revelational, vocal, power and other gifts that bring blessing, meaning, comfort and courage to others will freely flow in and through you when you walk in anointed agape. Pursuing God’s love fills your heart and ministry with a burden and compassion conducive to the flow of the charismata. Never seek to flow in the Spirit for the sake of parading your giftedness or showing off your spiritual power. Let God’s unconditional love fuel your ministry.
