“Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass” (Ps 37:7).

To fret is to be vexed, stressed and agitated in the mind. Now, it’s interesting that we can be stressed by other people’s apparent success. It’s even worse when people we know to be crooked apparently succeed in their wicked schemes. We’re puzzled because it suggests that we are wasting our time by leading straightforward lives.

However, the antidote to fretting over other people’s lives is to be still and take full refuge and comfort in God. You rest assured when you stop competing with friends or foes knowing that as you delight in the LORD and fully trust Him, He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn and the justice of your cause like the noonday sun (Psalm 37:4-6). With God on your side, you’ve no reason to limit yourself to the realm of your peers. Just rest in and wait upon Yahweh.
