“Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Saviour and my God” (Ps 43:5).

One secret victorious saints have is the practice of addressing their own souls. The intellectual, emotional and volitional dimensions of your soul have their own voices. These voices threaten to drown the Holy Spirit’s voice within us. If you let your flesh-dominated soul dictate to your life, you’ll be most miserable. Remember that Satan capitalises on our flesh to influence, limit and corrupt our lives. In our text today, the antidote to the soul’s anxiety and turmoil is deliberate hope in God. Whenever despair sets in, know that you’ve shifted focus from trust in Yahweh to something else. That’s your cue to get back on track. Refuse to be controlled by the flesh. Resuscitate your hope and trust in God. He will order your steps aright.
