“Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “Now, I have put my words in your mouth” (Jer 1:9).

Prophet Jerry was another reluctant minister, just like Moses. He was plagued by feelings of inadequacy, just like many of us today. God’s reassurance made all the difference. From then on, he ministered not from personal ambition but from divine unction. The two aren’t the same, brethren! It’s one thing for you to have something to say and quite another when God has something to say. Do you notice in our text that God performed two miracles in one? Firstly, He touched Jeremiah’s mouth. By so doing, God was enabling the young prophet’s speech faculties. Secondly, God gave Jeremiah the content to convey. Many Charismatics today rush to speak when they just sense the Spirit’s touch upon their lips. They are impatient to await the Lord’s words. That shall not be your portion.
