“And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there” (1 Kings 18:40).
Elijah’s thoroughness in eliminating idolatry in Israel is quite instructive. We too must be thorough in our disposal of every alien fire, devotion and worship. Every sinful habit, cultus and thought must be done away with if we desire to see the heavens unlocked. No foreign god shall compete with Yahweh on the altar of our hearts.
In this age of compromise and political correctness, this prophet’s example is both challenging and inspiring. This man of like nature with us triumphed because he dared to believe and also dared to live righteously (Jam 5:16-17). So will we if we follow suit.
