“Then the hand of the LORD came upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel” (1 Kin 18:46).

Elijah’s supernatural transportation was legendary, for the Spirit would whisk him from one place to another in no time (see 1 Kin 18:12)! From an allegorical reading, Elijah typifies the spiritual man while Ahab typifies the carnal believer. The former depends solely on God, the latter trusts in his political power, state resources and human genius. Yet, lo and behold, the flesh is no match for the spirit!

Although sometimes sinners appear to be outrunning saints, don’t be fooled! You shall overtake those who pride themselves in their shortcuts. As you live in reverence, righteousness and faith, your victory shall be plain for all to see. Like Elijah, you shall outpace on foot those who ride upon warhorses. Your anointed competitive advantage shall soon become patent. Your spiritual superiority shall become evident. You shall surely be head and not tail, above only and not beneath (Deut. 28:13).
