“And if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure” (Pro 2:4).

The sense here is one of pursuing wisdom to the same extent as we seek money. Who doesn’t appreciate a financial windfall, a salary raise or good return on investment? Spiritually, there is a correlation between our pursuit of wealth and our pursuit of the Word. Wise believers know how to get wealth and still remember Yahweh (Deut. 8:18). One way of testing your word-wealth balance is to check whether your work commitment matches your word commitment.

For instance, if you’re diligent at work but leisurely at church, then your balance is skewed. If you’re punctual to work but sluggish in the Word, then your life is unbalanced. Consider how we value, treasure, generate, monitor, manage, audit and save money. So must we treat the Word!
