“You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all. 3 And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts” (2 Cor. 3:2).

The metaphor of the believer as a sacred open letter is simultaneously scary and exciting. It’s scary because whether we like it or not, whether we know it or not, people are reading us. We are virtually under CCTV surveillance always and unawares. So, when our conduct differs from our conviction, the world is puzzled. When our practice conflicts with our profession, observers are baffled. Our credibility suffers, our testimony staggers and our impact spoils.

When you live up to who you are, your critics are won over. As an epistle penned by the Spirit of the living God, you do not aspire to be epic. You already are! That’s the encouraging part.
