“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Mat 5:6).

God doesn’t waste words! It’s not random that Jesus asserts that His disciples must possess the twin appetites of hunger and thirst in order for them to be filled. Hunger refers to an appetite for food, while thirst refers to an appetite for water.

In spiritual terms, we must be hungry for spiritual bread, God’s Word. We must also be thirsty for the living water, the Holy Spirit. The reason why some Christians are not thriving as they should is an unbalanced passion for spiritual matters. If you’re passionate for knowledge of the the Word (truth), but dispassionate towards the Spirit and spiritual gifts, you’ll not be filled. We must desire the pure milk of the Word like new born babies (1 Per 2:2) and earnestly desire spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 14:1).

Remember that the Father actively seeks people who worship Him in Spirit and truth (Jo 4:24). Pursue God through His Spirit and His Word. His fullness shall saturate your life like never before.
