“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Tim 3:16).

In this verse, the Word of God has four vital functions in the believer’s life. The fourth function is instruction in righteousness. The term translated “instruction” (paideia) literally refers to training.

Beloved, God’s Word isn’t just there to save, warn and inspire us. It’s the Spirit’s means of reshaping us to walk in sync with God. His revelation can retrain the eyes of our hearts to see things from God’s viewpoint (Ep 1:18). His truth can retrain our mouths to speak life and love (Pro 18:21). His wisdom can coach our minds to think the way God thinks (see Isa 55:8).

I urge you to intentionally subject all your faculties to the Scriptures’ training. Let your views, ideas, thoughts, words and opinions all be shaped by God’s Word. Learn to challenge your own actions, assumptions and attitudes in light of all Scripture. It’s profitable!
