‘Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’ (Jo 14:6).

This startling pronouncement was given in response to what, with the benefit of hindsight, now seems to be one of those silly, doubting Thomas questions. For Thomas had admitted to Jesus, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” (Jo 14:5).

Beloved, many today are equally baffled by life’s greatest issues, but lack the honesty, humility and wisdom to enquire aright. I love Thomas because his honest admissions always solicited profound responses from the Lord. Remember the awesome benediction Jesus pronounced in response to Thomas’ disbelief of the disciples’ report that the Lord had resurrected (Jo 20:29)? May more of us today be honest and humble enough to seek answers aright!

Beloved, seeking answers properly is not about winning arguments, defending our opinions or justifying our errors. It’s about being humble enough to risk ridicule, honest enough to admit our ignorance and wise enough to consult the true source. Jesus loves such genuine enquirers.
