‘Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’ (Jo 14:6).

Jesus’s statement was as startling in the first century as it is in the twenty-first. It’s startling because we’re accustomed to multiple routes, multiple opinions and multiple lives. However, even in our postmodern era, there are certain standards, values and behaviours accepted worldwide across the board.

Let’s not pretend that the best organisations of our day do not operate under clearly defined protocols! Our successful brands nowadays have clear-cut mission statements, structures and systems. There’s nothing “unfair” about that. We cannot just wake up and impose our own opinions, protocols and structures on the commercial, govt and international organisations!

What makes us think the Kingdom of God is any less orderly, purposeful and consistent? In our text, Jesus explains what may be termed Kingdom protocols. As such He wouldn’t accommodate all possible preferences the peoples of the world can imagine. He simply explains the true situation regarding this specific entity He referred to as “My Father’s House”. It makes perfect sense.

We are free to imagine other ways and views regarding other entities. But if we’re interested in the Kingdom of Jesus’ Father, we have to accept the one Way. It’s clear, simple and accessible. Let’s walk in it!
