“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son” (Jo 14:13).

I always wondered how God, knowing our weaknesses, could give us such a “blank cheque”! That was before I understood the “disclaimer” embedded in this passage. It goes thus: as long as God dwells within us by His Spirit as He did in the Son of Man, and He speaks and works in and through us, our words and our works will always match His perfect will. So our prayers are no longer our own prayers. They are His prayers and can never contradict the will and purpose of God. As such He cannot ignore His own will!

Compare Romans 8:26-27: “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

Let’s stop trying to be great prayer warriors and let God pray in and through us. Results guaranteed–says Jesus!
