So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of my mouth.
Our text uses a very powerful domestic metaphor to describe our Lord’s disgust with a complacent spirituality. Do you wonder why our faith, prayers and seeding don’t seem to work sometimes? Often it’s simply because we offend rather than impress the Lord. God finds lukewarm faith simply revolting. Outright sinners are more acceptable to God than complacent saints. The “meal” of faith is best when served hot. Beloved, let our prayers, worship and ministry be delightful to God rather than dreadful to Him. They are delightful when they are sizzling hot. Our faith is irresistibly delicious to God when it’s ardent and passionate.
