I know thy works…
There is value in reading Jesus’ epistles to the seven churches as a whole corpus. Among other things, doing so enables us to feel the rhythm of the themes running through the entire section of Scripture. For instance, the regular occurrence of the refrain “I know thy works” emphasises our Lord’s full awareness of everyone’s performance, regardless of status. Beloved, why then do we behave as though our Master is blind to our shenanigans, duplicity, hypocrisy and disobedience? Why do diligent saints behave as though their labour is in vain? Let us conduct our lives with a full revelation of His omniscience. Let every faithful labourer in the Lord’s vineyard be encouraged. Let every careless believer beware. Jesus knows us completely.
