And each was covered all around and on the inside with eyes.
Another precious lesson these seraphim surrounding the Throne teach us concerns awareness. Firstly we note that the coverage of eyes all over their bodies meant that no activity they engaged in robbed them of their awareness, intelligence and knowledge. May that be your portion too, beloved! Your spiritual fervency shall not make you susceptible to deception, distraction or confusion. Good Christians are fully aware of their environment, threats and opportunities. We are not ignorant of satanic devices, wiles and cunning craftiness (see 2 Cor. 2:11). We have a holistic sense of awareness. Secondly, we note that these living animals have eyes without as well as within. That means they also have self-awareness. So should we, dear saints! We should not be blind to our intrinsic strengths, flaws, potential and struggles (see Rom 7:23). We must not be insensitive to the motives, thoughts and intents of our own hearts (see 1 Jo 3:20-21). “Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers” (1 Tim 4:16).
