Revelation 5:12
Saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honour and glory and blessing!”

Today we begin a series of meditations on the seven grounds of worship in this verse. Let our understanding, skill and practice of worship be enriched thereby.

Firstly, we note that the Lamb is said to be worthy to receive POWER. The word translated power (dunamis) in this case denotes ability, force or miraculous power. To worship Jesus on the basis of His power then is to acknowledge, admit, accept, confess or declare His ability to perform the impossible, to help us in times of need or otherwise intervene in our lives.

Beloved, at the core of faith is this revelation of God’s ability to act in our favour. Scripture boldly declares that he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). It’s not enough to believe that God is alive (exists). We must also believe that He is able. At the heart of humanistic worldviews of our day is the satanic plot to deny the reality of God’s power in creation and life. Don’t fall for that trap! Don’t let anything dilute your appreciation of the power of God toward those who believe. Never doubt God’s power!

We must intentionally find out what the Word says God can do. Research on Bible promises about God’s ability, power and activity on behalf of His saints. Then reflect that back to Him in worship.

As an act of worship, acknowledge that Jesus is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or imagine, according to the power that works in us (Ep 3:20). Confess that our God is mighty to save (Zeph 3:17). Declare that nothing is too hard for the One who made the heavens and the earth by His great power (Jeremiah 32:17). Praise Him for His goodness and His wonderful works to the children of men (Ps 107:8). It is a highly rewarding practice (He 11:6)!
