Revelation 22:13
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
At least 7 times in the Bible, God identifies Himself as the beginning and the end directly or in similar terms. (E g: Isa 41:4; Rev 1:11, 17). There are good reasons for this.
Firstly, knowing that Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, deals with all our fears about the future. The letters alpha and omega mark the start and the end of the entire Greek alphabet (like our A to Z). They envelop everything else in between. No word, name or concept exists outside the scope of this alphabet. Likewise, no problem, issue, situation, threat or opportunity in our lives exists outside the ambit of Jesus’ knowledge, love, power or control. That’s reassuring.
Secondly, saying Jesus is the beginning and the end is different from saying He was at the beginning and will be there in the end. Rather, as the Beginning nothing precedes Him. No one and nothing predates the Lord. He is the Source and the Origin of all life and everything good.
Therefore no past event, experience, background or history is a mystery to Him. He knows every factor, dynamic and cause in the past. Trust Him.
Furthermore, as the End, nothing in future succeeds Him. He is the ultimate seal, conclusion and climax of what lies ahead. Jesus is the summit, culmination and epitome of all knowledge, power, wisdom and glory. It doesn’t matter what your foes and the devil may do or say. Jesus has the final say! Trust Him.
