When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!”
Recently we learnt that Jesus has the FINAL SAY in our lives and in human history. Today we learn that He also has the initiative–the FIRST SAY! From our text we note that Nothing happens on earth until Jesus opens a seal. As far as the consummation of human history goes, the agenda is safely in Christ’s hands. The initiative is exclusively in His holy hands.
In a world where the wiles, devices and schemes of the devil are manifest everywhere, we can get the impression that the fate of the universe is at the mercy of a very bad devil. However, although Satan is referred to as “the god of this world” (2 Cor. 4:4), he is not in charge of history. Jesus is. He calls the shots!
The Author and Finisher of our faith is in full control, as He upholds all things by the word of His power (Heb. 1:3; 12:2). The final chapter in the Redemption Story will not begin until Jesus says so. He is the One “Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 1:8). Bless His holy name!
