2 Thessalonians 2:2
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
God doesn’t want us to stop living, working, learning and investing on the pretext that the Second Coming is so close that doing anything else is pointless. We must not be paralysed by our awareness of the Rapture. Beware of spiritual paralysis!
Living with an awareness of the imminence of the Lord’s Coming helps us to purify our walk, and prioritise the Lord’s work. But it mustn’t paralyse us!
Worship, serve, give, forgive, witness and wash as though Jesus returns tomorrow. Doing so proves the seriousness of your expectation. But plan, develop yourself and invest for the long term. Doing so proves your conviction that we don’t know the day or the hour of the Return (Mat 24:36).
That’s the tension we must live with as we wait for the Second Coming–hope and humility, expectation and stability, urgency and diligence, watching and praying.
