2 Timothy 4:3-4
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
If we do not want to be named among apostate (backsliding) believers of the latter days, our text reveals at least three things we must do.
Firstly, we must love sound TEACHING. That means we must appreciate the content of what we receive not for its entertainment value but for its ability to transform our lives to be Christlike. We must treasure the quality rather than the volume, gimmicks or special effects.
Secondly, we must not choose preachers who tell us what we want to hear rather than what we NEED to hear. Serious Christians do not seek to prescribe what they should be taught! The kingdom of God is not about our preferences but about God’s will, beloved. Neither is it about our subjective interests.
Thirdly, we must treasure the TRUTH. Regardless of how popular or exciting an idea may be, we must only accept it if it is true, according to the Word of God. Don’t let your senses dictate your spiritual diet! Then you will not be deceived by the myths and fables of men.
