2 Thessalonians 2:8
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
We have already seen that it is the Holy Spirit who calls the shots as far as the Antichrist’s entry onto the world’s stage goes. Now we also learn that the enemy of our souls is no match for Christ at all. There’s no contest whatsoever.
In His dealing with the son of perdition, God doesn’t break a sweat at all. His “breath” is sufficient to consume His enemies, just as the brightness of His Parousia is enough to destroy the wicked one.
What an image of God’s matchless power on our behalf our text is! Often we imagine God rolling up His sleeves and getting into battle against the evil one. That’s wrong thinking beloved! Our Lord has won the victory long before He lifts a finger. Our revelation of God’s power and might is critical to our sense of victory in life and our effectiveness in life, prayer and ministry. It’s not a joke that God is omnipotent.
Today I urge you to pray and live on the basis of Jesus’ incontestable power and love for you. Know that He is able to perform infinitely beyond your wildest dreams and able to effortlessly dispense with the enemy’s worst efforts against you. Victory is assured in Jesus!
