2 Thessalonians 2:15
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.

Why does God’s word talk about “traditions” here rather than just truth? It is true that we must reject the traditions of men because they nullify the commandments of God, as our Lord says (Mar 7:8).

However, today’s verse is NOT about human traditions. Rather it’s about the good traditions, the godly principles, ways and standards of the Kingdom (see 2 Th. 3:6). We must also know God’s ways of doing things, not just His words, beloved. These we must cherish. These we must hold on to.

Observe also that standing firm and holding fast are twin strategies we must all learn in these last days. It’s the truth we cling to tenaciously that enables us to stand firm.

I’m surprised that some believers have a very light grip on the word of God. They have a weak grasp of biblical principles, promises and ways. They have a dangerous flexibility on Christian principles. No wonder their stability is also suspect!

The strength of your grip on Biblical truth determines the stability of your stance in Christ.
