Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared the Lord.
How wonderful it is when leaders and members alike all collaborate in obedience to the word and will of God! This success story should inspire all God’s people today. It assures us that today’s church CAN fully comply with God’s vision and mission.
Often we hear people say “let us agree to disagree”. Beloved, why instead can’t we agree to agree with God and one another? Let us be that breed of brethren who know the beauty, blessing and anointing of dwelling together in unity and peace (Ps 133).
Besides their collective obedience, we should likewise be inspired by this remnant’s fear of God in response to the prophetic rebuke. They didn’t fight, defend themselves or duck the issue. They obeyed and feared God.
There’s no better proof that we fear God than to obey Him. The flip side of the coin says we kid ourselves when we say we revere God but proceed to disobey His word. The sure proof of our reverence for God is our obedience. Full stop!
