Revelation 21:1
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

God promises to cut a new covenant with His people (Jer. 31:31). He also promises to give us a new heart and a new spirit instead of a stony heart (Eze. 36:26). If anyone is in Christ, he or she becomes a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17). And God calls us to a new and living way (Heb. 10:20).

Moreover, the Lord Jesus teaches the principle that we cannot put new wine into old bottles (Mat 9:17). The state of the content and that of the container must match. The home and the residents must match.

Therefore, renewing earth and space completes God’s redemptive work. Otherwise, there would be a mismatch between believers as born again, new creations, living under a new covenant on one hand versus our same old, sin-spoilt, disaster-prone and broken world on the other.

Thank God that He shall make ALL things new (Rev 21:5). Hallelujah!
