Acts 2:18b
And they shall prophesy.

God wants all His children to prophesy! His Word states categorically that one result of their reception of the Spirit would be the ability to edify the saints through this spiritual gift.

Note that prophecy is not always about predicting the future. For the Bible says, “On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation” (1 Cor. 14:3).

Contrast this with the damage our careless tongues routinely inflict upon others. Praise God that the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to regularly speak words that edify, encourage and comfort others. Surely we need more rather than less of this prophetic benefit! May more of our songs, chats, art, stories and counsel be prophetic!

I’m sure there are shattered lives around us that need upbuilding. There are discouraged souls around us that need encouragement. And there are troubled hearts all around us that need comforting. That’s why prophecy is crucial. Actually indispensable. That’s why God wants us all to prophesy. Will you live a prophetic life?
