Galatians 5:16-17
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

Beloved, as long as we live on this side of heaven, the lure of sin through the evil one in collaboration with our old sinful nature (the flesh), will not cease (Jam 1:14-15). Every child of God must get used to the fact that temptations will often assault our hearts and lives (1 Cor. 10:13).

Thank God that He has not left us at the mercy of the fiend or the flesh! The Helper is there to enable us to live right in spite of the presence of sin around us. He is the key to living a sanctified and victorious life in a crooked world.

However, the Holy Spirit cannot help us if we only want His power for certain tasks. It’s not enough to be filled with the Spirit from time to time. That’s why many “powerful” people still disgrace the Lord’s name in spite of being “filled”. Rather, we must be filled AND walk with the Spirit.

That means we must enjoy fellowship with the Holy Spirit. We can’t have a purely utilitarian arrangement with the Paraclete. He must be our ministry partner. He must be our constant companion. He must be our resident Consultant. Believers who walk with the Spirit never make crucial decisions independently of the Holy Spirit’s input. We must constantly consult the Spirit. We must continually listen to His voice. We will live to enjoy the blessing!
