Ephesians 1:17-18
I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.
Another powerful advantage of being filled and led by the Holy Spirit is the blessing of inner enlightenment. Note that the Spirit is here addressed as the Source of wisdom and revelation. He imparts supernatural perception to every willing believer.
Why the emphasis on the “eyes of your understanding (mind)”? Because the Spirit gives us spiritual sight or vision. The wisdom and revelation of God accord us the ability to “see” what we wouldn’t be able to perceive otherwise.
Only the Holy Spirit can show us what our physical eyes cannot see, what our ears can’t hear and what our minds can’t conceive (1 Cor. 2:9). The brightest human minds among us are totally incapable of grasping the wisdom of God unaided.
In fact, without the Holy Spirit, you and I cannot live out our fullest potential. Only the Holy Spirit understands the full extent of our life purpose and how to live it out. Only He can unfold our destiny. No carnal ambition, dream or vision of ours can come anywhere near the will of God for our lives.
We shortchange ourselves when we rely only on our limited understanding to determine our course in life. Trust the Holy Spirit to reveal the hope to which you’ve been called and the rich heritage God has in store for us in this and the next life.
