1 Corinthians 12:8b
To another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit.
Word of Knowledge (logos gnōseōs) is the second Revelation Gift, so called because it reveals something. Of course, being a gift, it’s different from acquired knowledge. It is not the same as being knowledgeable, well educated or generally smart.
Rather this gift refers to a specific word (logos) or message imparted by the Holy Spirit to a believer in specific situations. It is a supernatural revelation of information about a past or present situation, event or person. What many Christians erroneously call “prophecy” is actually a Word of Knowledge (or Word of Wisdom sometimes). We must not be ignorant of these distinctions, beloved!!
For instance, when Peter knew that Ananias and Sapphira had lied about the proportion of cash they were sowing into the kingdom, he was functioning in the gift of Word of Knowledge (Acts 5:3-4). When Jesus told Nathaniel that He had seen him under the fig tree, He was operating in the gift of the Word of Knowledge (John 1:47-50).
When Elisha knew that Naaman had secretly accepted forbidden gifts, it was the Word of Knowledge in action (2 Kin 5:21-27). When Peter declared that Jesus was the Christ the Son of the living God, He was operating in the gift of the Word of Knowledge (Mat 16:16-17).
Trust the Holy Spirit to release this precious gift in your life and ministry. Expect supernatural revelation of certain truths in the Word of God, in counselling or as you go about your business for the glory of God. Let the Holy Spirit reveal what your eyes have not seen, your ears have not heard or your heart has not conceived (1 Cor. 2:9-10).
