Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.”
Do you have any idea just how rich our salvation is, beloved? Do you really understand what Jesus accomplished for us by His death and resurrection? I bet you and I don’t quite get it! So let the Word of God help us.
This quotation from the Psalms refers to Christ’s comprehensive victory over evil powers, the enemies He led as it were in triumphal procession through His death and resurrection. Hallelujah, the enemies of God’s people–the devil, death, the curse and sin–were all thoroughly defeated through Jesus’ resurrection!
No wonder Paul prays that believers’ minds should be enlightened in order to know the immeasurable greatness of God’s power toward us who believe, which He exercised when He raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principalities, authority, power and dominion, and above every title (name) in this age and the future (Eph. 1:19-21).
Furthermore, God put all things under Jesus’ feet and gave Him as head over all things for the church, which is His body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way (Eph. 1:22-23).
Did you notice that Jesus’ exaltation is specifically for the church’s advantage?
Christ’s resurrection is proof of God’s unlimited power, which we must learn to trust in our situations today. When you face a formidable challenge, remind yourself of His limitless resurrection power. When you bend your knees in prayer, pray from the platform of Jesus’ total victory. Nothing shall separate you from the love and power of Christ!
