John 14:18, 26
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you…But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

Let’s face it, sometimes life makes us feel isolated, besieged and quite overwhelmed. We also sometimes feel misunderstood, overlooked and unappreciated. That’s what it means to feel orphaned. It’s about feeling abandoned, helpless, fatherless, friendless, comfortless or desolate.

Praise God that our Lord categorically promises not to leave us orphaned! The Paraclete is here for you. Only He fully understands you. There is no area beyond the Holy Spirit’s power to help. We limit the scope of His assistance to our own loss. Why do we restrict the Paraclete’s help to so-called spiritual matters only? He is willing and able to come to our aid in every facet of life–work, ministry, travel, study, business, family, personal, leadership and so forth.

There are burdens we are busy carrying alone which we shouldn’t. There are problems we are trying to solve with our limited capacities which are none of our business. There are lives we are trying to change which only need the Spirit’s conviction. We have relied on our own brainpower for too long. We are not helpless. Let’s trust the One who can do exceeding abundantly above all we can ask or imagine through the power at work in us!
