Ephesians 6:17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

How would you advise a soldier in battle who is well-armed but is busy trying to use puny sticks and other harmless stuff around him? I’m sure you’d advise him to use the right weapons already in his possession. That’s exactly how we behave in the spirit, beloved!

God’s Word is your only offensive weapon–it puts your enemies to flight.
The Holy Spirit always uses the Word to help us deal with the evil forces arrayed against us. Be alert to the specific verses the Spirit quickens in your heart when you’re facing a situation. Look for a Scripture that addresses whatever need you have. Use it to confront the challenges you face.

For the Word of God is active, powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb. 4:12).

Never confront difficult matters without your sword, dear Christian soldier. Wield your sword! Stop praying your own words–they are not the sword of the Spirit. Only God’s Word functions as your spiritual sword. Infuse all your prayers with the Scriptures. Make use of the biblical Words the Holy Spirit evokes in your heart and mind. That’s your spiritual sword. The enemy can’t withstand it!
